MDK Shows Up Everywhere

Tue Mar 17, 2009 at 07:26:37 PM EDT

So yeah I've been gone/busy for a while now, but I decided to take a look around back here for old times sake.  I finally have some time to hopefully get in on some FFFs here and there, so I look forward to playing with some of you again.

Anyway, to the meat of this post.  I was watching a recent Achievement Hunter video (I don't really care about achievements, just enjoy watching the videos), and a familiar name popped up.

Aboot 16 seconds in.

He's everywhere!

Horde Strategies - Mansion

Thu Nov 13, 2008 at 01:05:00 PM EDT

A little late, but here it is:

Outside of Security, Mansion is a great map to get to the last Horde level on.  It offers a nice spot that, when held, funnels all incoming Locust into only a few possible openings.  On top of that, two great power weapons (that switch spawns every other round or so) spawn up there with you.

Power weapons + good position = win.  I think going from Level 41 (was helping others get to their 50s on Normal) to 50 we never lost a round.  We had people die of course (they were new to Gears), but overall our position was a stronghold.

Horde Strategies - Security

Sun Nov 09, 2008 at 11:26:42 AM EDT

I'll be throwing up some of these strategy guides for Horde mode based on when I play whatever map for an extended period of time.  Here is my first one for Security.

Also, be sure to post any strategies and tips you've used that seem to work great too!

Countdown?

Sat Sep 20, 2008 at 05:46:45 PM EDT

I know it may sound corny, but back in my original days visiting the site, I would look at that shiny countdown timer running at the top of the screen - the one counting down to the release of Gears 1.

Well, I know it's a little late to ask possilby, but I was wondering if it would be possible to do for Gears 2?  It was a really cool (hey, I'm easily impressed ;)) little feature that kept me coming back daily (that and Papi's awesome writeups).  Plus, coming up toward launch it just helped hype me up more and more, knowing it was coming soon.

I guess I'm just curious as to if there are or were any plans to bring that back for the launch of the second game, just as it was there for the first.

Well, back to work :S (stupid essays).

Gearheads Grifball Team

Thu Jun 05, 2008 at 11:01:46 AM EDT

I was just curious about the state of the Gearheads Grifball team you started up a while back.  The Summer League will be starting soon (mid-to-end of June) so there isn't a ton of time left to prepare.  Is your plan still to participate?  Because if it is my team and I can start getting you guys up to speed on any strategies and whatnot to get you prepped for the start of the League.

There are also some tournaments going on periodically (you just missed the one for new teams coming in unfortunately), so those could be good ways to prepare also.

Anywho, go check Grifball.com for more info and whatnot, but feel free to ask questions here as well.

Cliffy, NOOOO!!

Wed May 21, 2008 at 06:07:27 PM EDT

Sorry if this is old, but..

This just in..

CliffyB  doesn't want to be called CliffyB anymore.

End of an era, I guess.  He says it's, "time to grow up a bit".  Kinda sad :(.

That's about it.  Just found that and hadn't noticed it talked about on here.

..I really hate 300 characters.  Blah, blah, blah.  Yada, yada, yada.. etc., etc., etc.

AWESOME COD4 Machinima Series

Sun May 18, 2008 at 12:21:05 PM EDT

Just found this on YouTube after being linked to a different machinima.  It's seriously some amazing stuff.  Camera work is top notch, as are the filters applied and the voice acting.

The best COD4 machinima I've seen so far (although I haven't seen too many), and one of the best machinima series out there period.

Amazing stuff.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Think those are the only parts so far, but I'm not sure. Note: Episode 2 (and probably onward) has some NSFW language.

New Halo 3 Vidoc

Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 04:08:30 PM EDT

A nice runthrough of all three of the upcoming maps, showing off a bunch of the new Forge features along with the levels themselves.  I found it crazy how simple it is to change the lighting (or "filter") of the level.  My favorite quote:

"Do the Gears of War one!".

Go download & watch!

300 characters.. comments are welcome.. the Legendary pack looks cool.. I'm hungry.. and.. done!

Grifball Week 1 Highlights!

Sat Apr 05, 2008 at 11:24:04 AM EDT

And guess who's in it!

For an embarrassing incident, I know, but hey, I still scored the bomb and we won that game.

You'll have to change the flash player to "GBSL08 Highlights Week One".  Whatever the flash player chooses initially is random, so I can't link to the exact one.

Linkz

I still think Gearheads should've gotten a Grifball team together, but oh well.  Summer League maybe?  I just think it would be interesting to read the updates and such on your matches just like we read the recaps for the FFFs.

If you do do it for the Summer League, you'll have some scrimage partners in my team.

New Legendary Map Pack Trailer

Thu Apr 03, 2008 at 04:14:29 PM EDT

Pretty awesome stuff - Bungie released a cool new trailer detailing the three upcoming maps for Halo 3.

Downloads and such here.

I liked the deep voice overlayed over the action as well.  Apparently David Scully (Sgt. Johnson, Elites) came back to do some voice work for this trailer.  I wouldn't have known had I not heard it mentioned.

I'm definitely buying the pack now (though, was there ever really any doubt I would?) first thing.

The Halo 3 Gearheads Team and Whatnot

Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 11:58:46 AM EDT

I have a serious question to ask everybody regarding the Humpday and our performance.  What is more important to those of you out there?  Beating Bungie (and keeping up their losing streak :)), or getting the most amount of Gearheads into the game as possible?

It's often been said in the various practices we've had that Average, Scott, and I would have to "carry" the rest of the team.  Well, I have some proof that that doesn't really work.  That game (linked) is a game of Team BRs on The Pit.  I played the best I've played in a while there (not so much kill-count wise as performance-wise in the game), but we still lost.  Why?  Because a few good players cannot carry a team of "bad" players unless the "bad" players make good decisions, communicate well, and generally stay back and play support.  I know that may not be fun for them, but it can ultimately decide a winning game or a losing game.

It's probably possible Average, Scott, and I could "carry" us to win in the first game, but the current plan in the Humpday is to rotate  people out, and I assume Papi and SweetTea are staying the course of the games.  So with our "top players" gone, we'd more than likely get crushed the last two games.  Like.. Infinity Ward vs Gearheads crushed.  The Bungie crew definitely aren't amazing players from the films I've watched, but they also aren't terrible.  Our crew?  Most of you haven't even played Halo in a while, or if you have it was after playing COD or Gears for a couple hours beforehand.  And that just doesn't work.  And that DEFINITELY won't work Pre-Humpday next Friday.

So the real question is whether to continue with the old plan and get as many people from this community into the Humpday (which I'd still like to do), or go with our "Alpha Squad" the entire match and with luck, sweep all 3 games.  My vote still stands for the first option, but with a slight twist.

I'm proposing a "Training Camp" for Halo 3.  We need, Need, NEED to get some of you guys better.  Especially since this is such a big match, and especially since I think you all want vengeance after the IW match.  Going in to Matchmaking isn't really helping anyone out since your skill isn't really improving.  That's not going to make anybody better.  Dying repeatedly is what I did for the large part of my Halo 3 carrier, and I'm JUST NOW getting good.  However, I think with a little training we can get anyone and everyone who is looking to be on the Humpday team for any of the three games better and more or less "average".  But our current skill level isn't looking too great.

In this Training Camp, I (and perhaps Average and Scott?) will show all who come some basic tips and advice, with a few advanced tactics thrown in as well.  The first time for this, I'm shooting for, is tomorrow (Saturday) at 9:30 pm EST (specific time may be adjusted).  I'd like to do it tonight as part of our Halo 3 MM practice stuff during FFF, but I'm thinkin' we might get sidetracked.  Plus, I have some Grifball stuff to worry about tonight as well.

So, signup below for the first Gearheads Halo 3 Training Camp.  This is mainly just for those who think they can make the Humpday next Friday, but you're welcome to join for either the Training part or as an extra team mate for these games.

Put your deets below; if you can or cannot make the Humpday and your Gamertag (if you're not already on my Friends List at least).

New Halo 3 Playlist..

Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 07:19:17 PM EDT

Just a small bit o' news for you, but a pretty significant one.

Major League Gaming will soon get its own Halo 3 Matchmaking playlist.  For good.  It will be replacing the Team Hardcore playlist - one that's been there since the latter portion of Halo 2's online lifespan.  MLG settings, maps, and more will be added into the hopper, spitting out a bunch of MLG maps and gametypes for pros and amateurs alike to jump into the MLG game.

Needless to say, I'll be stepping into it day 1, even just to see if I can get matched up with any of the pro teams :).

Deetz here.

Now all they need to do is add a Grifball playlist back in for GOOD and I'll be good to go :).
