Yet another reason to avoid CoDWaW

Tue Sep 16, 2008 at 01:02:15 AM EST

and no, it's not the ridiculously long abbreviation for the game.

When CoD5 launches, there will be two DLC packs.  The first isn't described at all, but the second is called "Day 1 Advantage".  Basically, they want you to pay extra to get a little (or big?) advantage in the game.

This bullshit has to stop.  The content is done prior to the release of the game, yet they're not including it just so they can charge a little more.  I for one, will not be purchasing these fragments of games that come out at launch.  I wouldn't have nearly as much of an issue with this if this DLC was made after the game had come out, but they're purposely holding back a part of the game just to squeeze out a little more cash.

If this is the future of video gaming, then to hell with it.  I'm gonna go plug in my N64 and play some Mario Kart.

Castle Crashers

Wed Jul 30, 2008 at 05:45:49 PM EST

Has just had it's price announced.  Instead of the standard 800 MS points, it will cost 1800, or $22.50.

You can count me out for this one, I can buy dead rising or fear for another $7.00.

Festival of Death - The Tournament

Mon Jun 02, 2008 at 10:32:37 PM EST

Hey, so I was thinking that with this great new gametype we should have a sitewide tournament to determine the master of the shotty-joust.

First of all, we need a time that works for most of us at least.  I know Fridays are designated for the FragFests, so I was thinking possibly on Saturday nights, or during the day.  Vote in the poll for the time that would work best for you.

If there's enough interest in this, I'll make a bracket.  I'm hoping we can get at least 16 participants.

I was even thinking that we could expand this, have teams of two players and have team tournaments also.

To make these jousts more fair, it would be nice if we could get a neutral host to make sure that no one has too big of an advantage.

For scoring of the games, (Assuming it's a 16 player tournament) I was thinking best of nine for the first and second round, then in the semi finals and finals it would go up to best of 13.  This can be changed up completely, just my first idea.

So, if you're interested, go ahead and sign up if you have the cajones, and post any ideas for improving this.

Proof that aliens exist!

Thu May 29, 2008 at 09:55:48 PM EST

Cue the X-Files theme song.

According to some guy named Jeff Peckman, he has indisputable video evidence of an alien.  He's releasing his vid to the world at a press conference in Denver tomorrow.

From G4's The Feed:
"Jeff Peckman, who is pushing a ballot initiative to create an Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission in Denver to prepare the city for close encounters of the alien kind, said the video is authentic and convinced him that aliens exist. Peckman, 54, said the video was one of the main reasons he was "compelled" to launch the proposed ballot initiative."

Will this be the conclusive evidence that has eluded us for so long?  Or will this just be yet another grainy video showing some half assed attempt at being funny?

We'll find out tomorrow sometime.

I know that it's hard to wait that long, so to keep us occupied here's a poll. Do aliens exist?

here's the link to the story http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/685890/Real_Live_Alien_Unveiled_Tomorrow.html

GTA IV Free Roam - What will you do first?

Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 09:17:34 PM EST

Grand Theft Auto 4 is so close.  6 days, 3 hours, and 55 minutes away to be exact.  With time winding down and hype skyrocketing, GTA is sure to yield some moments in gaming that we won't forget for a long time.

The thing that I'm personally most excited about is free roam mode in multiplayer.  you and 15 of your friends in Liberty City, with Chaos erupting everywhere.  Free Roam opens up so many possibilities that I've always wanted to do, but never could because of the single player only GTA games in the past. (Never played GTA for PC so I haven't tried the MP mods.)

I read a thread on gtaforums.com where the question was, "What will you do on free roam?"  This immediately flooded all sorts of ideas into my sadistic mind.  Here are some of my ideas, and some from others that I particularly liked:

-Get on top of an airplane, and try to stay on once it takes off.

-If possible, get a high wanted level, go into a building with a friend, and have a shootout with the police.

-take a bus full of friends into a river.

-16 man drive by in a bus.

-Drunk fist fight on top of the Empire State Building.

-Car surfing - 'nuff said.

-King of the hill on the top of a semi...with a drunk driver.

-Turn off radar, names and dots above players.  One friend gets a motorcycle, a 15 second head start and is off. The rest hunt him down.

-Get drunk, try to cross a busy street without being hit.

-Get in police car, try to pull your friends over.

-ROB A BANK!

these are just a few of the things I will be doing come April 29th.  These all have the potential to create some memorable moments rivaling Gears of War at 2 a.m.

What will you be doing in free roam?

Unreal Tournament 3 for the 360 finally gets more details!

Fri Apr 18, 2008 at 04:02:36 PM EST

We'll be playing it soon! I had completely forgot about this game, but it's finally coming.  No date announced, only "Soon."

Some exclusive features on the 360 version.  Five new exclusive multiplayer maps, 2 exclusive characters, and SPLIT SCREEN!  It seems like a lot of games are leaving out Xbox Live split  screen lately, and it's really nice to see that Epic knows what's up.  These features come in addition to all the DLC the PC and PS3 have received so far.  It looks like the delay was worth it.

head over to IGN for a new trailer, and a bunch of new screen shots.  When Midway's Gamer's day event wraps up later today, there will be more released about the game.

The Next Mortal Kombat game....with Batman?

Fri Apr 18, 2008 at 03:04:18 PM EST

Midway has just announced the next game in the Mortal Kombat series.  The title of the game is Mortal Kombat vs. DC universe.  The four announced characters so far are Batman, Superman, Scorpion, and Sub Zero.

The interesting thing about this game is that there are no fatalities.  Fatalities have been the signature of Mortal Kombat games since way back on the SNES.  It's also been rumored that the game is shooting for a "T" rating.  I don't know if I'm gonna give this game a chance or not.  On one hand, it's really cool seeing new characters that I know and love thrown in. On the other, the trademark gore is now supposedly gone.

anyway, here's the link to the official site:

Quake Live Beta!

Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 06:10:16 PM EST

I don't know a thing about this game.  I had no idea it existed until roughly 25 seconds ago.  What I do know is that there's a beta beginning shortly and you can sign up by entering your email address at http://www.quakelive.com/index.php

I signed up for it, and I suggest you all should too while it's still available. Enjoy Gearheads!

The New York Mets get Rick Roll'd!

Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 09:24:20 PM EST

This spring, the NY Mets decided to let the fans vote for the song to be played during the 8th inning sing along for every home game this season.  There were 10 choices for fans to vote for, one being "other", a write in ballot.  Through the miracle of the interwebz, "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley came in first, with over 5 million votes.  The song played at their home opener and was greeted with loud Boo's across the stadium.

Unfortunately, the Mets backed out of their deal with the people and they will be playing the top six choices over the next six home games.  The one received best by the crowed at the game will be chosen as the season song.  Sad to say, Never gonna give you up won't be playing all year the way it should be.

A great prank, to my knowledge the biggest Rick Roll yet.

A microsoft Wii-mote?

Mon Apr 07, 2008 at 08:42:33 PM EST

We could see one by the end of the year, according to Kotaku.  According to this article, Microsoft is planning on their own rip off of the Wii mote.  With the Wii mote there's going to be a avatar creation system similar to the Miis.  This looks pretty interesting, and if Microsoft does this well they could take away at least some of the momentum Nintendo's motion sensor based gaming as accumulated.

If MS is able to pull this off, the next thing they'll need is a port of Major League Eating: The Game

Why Do I Love the Gearheads?

Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 11:38:02 PM EST

Look at the gaming world today.  Everywhere you go there is hate.  You can't visit a gaming forum without finding trolls, fanbois, flaming, racism, hatred, homophobia, and general negativity. (Unless that forum happens to be Gearheadsofwar.com ☺).  Back in the days of playing my SNES there wasn't this sense of division between gamers.  People could get along fine while playing a game, and just enjoy themselves.

People take everything way too seriously now.  With gaming increasing in popularity by the second, we have been blinded to what we're doing.  We're playing a game for fun.  There's no real tangible reward in most cases, maybe a symbol next to your gamertag, but usually nothing more.  And yet people are willing to scream, threaten and abuse each other

So what does this have to do with me loving Gearheads? I'm glad you asked.  This site is truly different from any other to my knowledge.  We can play competitively, we can take a game seriously, but it's all in good fun.  I think the Gearheads really know how to keep things in perspective, and remember that the whole point of what we're doing is to have a good time.  After playing in my first fragfest I was completely hooked.  It was constant laughing, and giggling ;) throughout the night.  Everyone was relaxed and having a blast.
I didn't know that there were people on Xbox Live like this, as nearly everyone I met online was a total douche wad up to that point.  After that fateful Friday night, I could never go back happily to playing with the random dickheads populating the Xbox Live community.

So thanks guys.  I've been a member here for just over a year now, and the experience has always been good.  It's late, and I remembered that March diary contest so I figured that I would put these thoughts down for you guys to read.

And just in case I haven't been clear about my views on the Xbox Live community, here's a graph to explain my opinion :)

Anyone picking up Rainbow Six Vegas 2?

Tue Mar 18, 2008 at 05:29:55 PM EST

I'll be getting my copy tomorrow around 3 p.m. and If anyone is up for some games I expect I'll be playing for a while.
There are a few deals you can get on Vegas 2, depending on where you get it.  If you buy it at Target, you get a $10 gift card, at Best Buy you get a code for unlocking a rifle (woot?), Circuit City will give you a "Gamer Energy Pack", that consists of an energy drink, and a candy bar. (or something similar).
Best of all though, is Fry's Electronics who is selling the game for $39. Because we don't have those up here in Minnesnowda I'll be getting mine at Target.

One more deal with the game is that there is a free downloadable map courtesy of Comcast.  All you have to do to get it is go to the main menu of the game, select extras, then go to Comcast Gift.  you'll be prompted to input the code, which is "Comcast Faster"
After that, the map is yours. Enjoy.
